AOTM ( DUSTY )

Dusty and I first met about 2 years ago on the set of a calendar shoot for V Man when I worked as Bruce Weber’s photo assistant. He came onto the set as a giant standing at 6 feet 5 inches and stacked like a football player. Of course, being that it was a calendar shoot, his entire session was shot in a yellow speedo and he handled himself just how any brand new model from Wisconsin on his first shoot with a legendary photographer would, like a fucking pro.

Our paths crossed several other times on various shoots and every time he was photographed I could see him getting better and more comfortable. He began taking acting lessons and incorporated the techniques to build characters and create depth in every image.

We caught up during a recent visit to NYC. He’s now signed to Ford Models and is working for the classics, Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein.

While out to do my laundry that day I noticed the most amazing light coming through skylight in the stairwell; we here at Be Good* like to make the best with what we’ve got. We shot that afternoon in 90 degree weather with air so humid you could fill a glass and afterward we all stripped down and sat in front of the AC.

He told us all about his love for books and how he plans to be an actor after modeling and showed us how he can pinch his abdominal muscles together to clamp onto fingers like a crab claw. That last thing was really weird to see. Our time with Dusty lasted exactly one wash and one dry cycle at the laundromat. He was on his way the next day to Wisconsin to surprise his father for his 60th Birthday.
